just in time for general conference, our old friend dean is stirring the pot. seems the church is working around the discipline of the methodist church to offer a ‘worship’ service that recognizes homosexual unions.

my quick thoughts.. seems kind of like poor timing before general conference where the nature and writing of the letter could possibly be irrelevant. probably not, but it is possible. but maybe that is the point, to get this conversation towards the front end of everyones mind.

i thought this news was pretty interesting as a person who care very little for starbucks (though i do order a caramel machiatto every now and then) & is generally put off by general publics blind loyalty to the chain.
since i am constantly thinking of church stuff. it had me wondering, what meaning might this be for the church, will a shift happen or is it happening when the consumer/program/entertainment driven mega churches forget their main things. or will it be like the shop owner shared, the small church will know the people who come through the doors.
i am going to continue to drink my fair brew at home & church.

tony jones has brought emergent into the methodist bbq debate.. this will make general conference very political, so much for holy conferencing

the wesley project : wesley words in a new light

i picked up my copy of "the wesley project" by carl thomas gladstone. carl i got to know at the umerging back in kansas city and the emergingumc last fall down here in nashville. before that i knew of some of the work he was doing that was leading up to this project.

simply put, he was taking wesleyan hymns & themes and blending them into new music stylings. it isn’t your generic praise & worship set, check it out on itunes. he doesn’t have it on hard copy cd as of yet.
