Students & their Poverty, still Optimistic [Infographic]

May 11, 2011 By Gavin Richardson

I’m a sucker for an infographic. Here is one that is interesting to me in regards to students and their handling of finances…

Student Finances: Young, Broke and Determined

A few things were interesting to me:

  • college is a given part of life plans, more so than ever. so don’t say that growing numbers is putting faith in the reward of college. it’s more often a means to an end
  • the optimism numbers are always in interesting measure to me.. who says “I’m just hoping I have a menial job that I can tolerate”
  • Students are learning about debt and working, but is that the only thing to learning about finances?

Do you have some thoughts?

Waking Up Our Young People

December 15, 2010 By Gavin Richardson

Ken Robinson first caught my radar some years back when TED started putting their talks online. Mitch Joel suggested Ken’s talk. I’ve used his talk in many teaching environments for youth, adults & other educations.

This RSA video is a great fusion of the visual with the oratory. It is also a different talk than what Ken gave at his TED talk, which was great to digest. The video is just over 10 mins long, but totally worth it!

Definite tip of the hat for this video to Mark Riddle.

How are we engaging the soulful creative character that is within the young people? It appears we are not doing it very well.

what we’ve learned is : “children will become like the people who teach them”
