mitch joel has some expanded thoughts on why you need to invest in social media & disagreement over the life and/or death of blogging. he has rooted some great thinking lines.
It sounds like we’re back to the relationship over the immediate sale.
Cut-rate journalists and underground marketing campaigns now drown
out the authentic voices of amateur wordsmiths. It’s almost impossible
to get noticed, except by hecklers. And why bother? The time it takes
to craft sharp, witty blog prose is better spent expressing yourself on
Flickr, Facebook, or Twitter…"Don’t blog to get known, blog to be knowable."
Craig L. Adams says
I import my blog into Facebook as “Notes.”
There are too many anonymous bloggers on the net. They are not knowable by their own intent. But, they could do the same thing, and they would be knowable at least by those on their friend list.

I TOTALLY disagree, and checked the link to make sure.
Bloging is divided into 3 types.
Make Money (no good)
Professional
Blog for fun
I am without a doubt a “blog for fun” type. Blogging friends and visitors are just a comment away.
My blog is like a hub of people I know and talk to all the time. I can honestly say I would really MISS my blog visitors a lot if they disappeared.
This guy does not understand bloggers at all. Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter are just extensions … arms that are connected to my blog.

eric, i’d disagree that mitch doesn’t know blogging. same with the folks at wired. now they might have a different slant to it all, but i am sure that they understand blogging just as you or i would.
blogging as a web designer goes is still crucial for search engine optimization. i rank as the number one ‘gavin richardson’ in google (last time i did the vanity check) and that wouldn’t happen with just being on facebook or twitter. so there is a need to blog if you want your voice heard. that’s where i would disagree with them. they are spot on about the professionals moving into the market and washing out those who are natural voices.
