thanks to the coolmomscare for the highlight of this week’s awareness designation. gives me something to get up to date on.
i don’t know about you, but this is all too prevalent in my life. from college until now. two of my youth girls have gone into the hospital for their eating disorder last fall (’06). one entered an intensive treatment facility because of it… and those are just the cases that are more public that i can elude to. but it isn’t just a young girls thing. if anyone has seen "thin" (which i highly recommend) would know.
in this video you can see polly’s struggles. as with anyone, this disorder is a constant struggle. it got the best of her and she recently committed suicide.

Thank you for you post. This problem is more widespread that might be supposed. I’ve had parents talk to me about some of the extreme measures used by their daughters to control weight. My oldest daughter told me that she first became concerned about controlling her weight when she was on the high school cheerleading team. I was ignorant and did not realize anything was going on. It has taken her several years to over come this problem. She recently told me that all the girls on the team were either throwing up or using laxatives to keep themselves slim. I wonder how common this is among other segments of the high school population.

This post is a very good reminder. I didn’t realize until I was working out for our Biggest Loser contest that this whole month is Eating Disorder month…I saw it on different days on a talk show as I was walking on the treadmill. It’s important too that everyone knows it’s not just a girl only disorder…my cousin suffered from anorexia some years ago to the point he was literally skin and bones. He then graduated from high school and joined the service…the recruiter told him before he started basic he needed to lose more weight…we could have hurt him…Scott would not just lose what he needed to he’d make sure he lost more. Luckily he was seeing a doctor that would help him through that and then subsequently got injured after basic so at least that influence won’t be on him to lose weight.
